The Genius of Ray Charles came alive tonight, at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock British Columbia, Canada, thanks to Mike Henry, and his Soul Explosion Band.
Mike Henry has performed in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand, in Atlantic City, Lake Tahoe, through Southeast Asia and the Middle East. And his tribute to the Genius of Ray Charles comes right from the heart. It was a wonderful mix of the great hits of Ray Charles and a few Seasonal tunes thrown in. The sold out crowd loved every minute. What a great way to cap off the holiday season.
It was a Kalimba weekend at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada. This past Summer, the high energy group had 3500 people dancing in the streets during the Concerts for the Pier series. We brought the show inside this weekend, and for the late show on Saturday, took away all the seats and created a dance party that rocked into the night. Kalimba celebrates the music and spirit of Earth, Wind and Fire, and because we’re into the season, threw in some Christmas tunes with a funky beat. Kalimba plays all up and down the West Coast, and we were fortunate to have the band make a stop in White Rock.
It was an amazing night of music at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada tonight! Three of the most sought after Jazz musicians in the country on the stage at Blue Frog, much to the delight of the sold out crowd. The amazing Bill Coon on guitar, the wonderful Miles Black at the piano, and hometown girl, Jodi Proznick on bass, threw out all the musical charts and played straight improvisational jazz all night long. What a treat to have these world class musicians together on the Blue Frog stage. It was one of those nights that you wished would go on and on and on. The trio is known as Triology, and mixed some old standards, and added a jazzy twist to some Christmas classics. It was quite a night.
It was a very very Valdy night at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada as Valdy returned to the Blue Frog stage. Blue Frog was packed once again for this Canadian troubadour, and the crowd loved every minute. The songs, the stories, the singalongs, they were all there. Judging by his tour schedule, Valdy seems to be on the road most of the year. He has fans across the country, in the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He is truly a Canadian Ambassador. Check out his webpage for his tour schedule, and if he’s coming to a town near you, don’t miss the opportunity to see this National Treasure. Valdy, not to be missed.
(Valdy’s the one on the right)
It was definitely Christmas with a Gypsy twist tonight at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock British Columbia as Van Django took to the stage. With an obvious nod to the great Django Reinhardt, Van Django took us on a wonderful Yuletide musical journey. Van Django is an acoustic string ensemble made up of four of Canada’s most talented and eclectic musicians; violinist Cameron Wilson, guitarist Budge Schachte, guitarist/cellist Finn Manniche and bassist Brent Gubbels, with the wonderful L.J. Mounteney on vocals. Their Christmas CD, Cool Yule features all the favourites, including Skating, from the Charlie Brown Christmas show, It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Sleigh Ride, ‘Zat You Santa Claus and In the Bleak Midwinter — the latter in a Celtic style. Even a spiced up version of Let it Snow, as a slow Argentine tango. The night finished with the traditional Silent Night. It was a great night, and a great kickoff to the holiday season.
