Country artist, Lisa Brokop, kicked off the Christmas season at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock last night. It was a wonderful mix of some of her own compositions and Christmas classics. The Surrey B.C. native, moved to Nashville 25 years ago, but makes the occasional visit to her home town every few years, and thankfully made Blue Frog one of her stops on her Christmas tour. Lisa first started performing at the age of 7, by 12 she was a singer in a band, at 15 she was touring the country, and at 17 she released her first single that reached the top ten of the Canadian RPM Country chart. Last night’s shows featured a sing a long segment, and also a wonderful a cappella version of Ave Maria that brought the house down. It was a great way to start a string of Christmas concerts at Blue Frog.
It was a beautiful night of music at Blue Frog Studios last night, as 3 of the finest singers in all the land took to the stage to pay homage to the great female Soul and R&B singers of our time. Backed by a first class band, Shannon Gaye, Britt McKillip and sister Carly McKillip took the audience on a musical journey that included hits from Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Alicia Keys and Adele. Soulful and sweet, with amazing harmonies. The audience from the two sold out shows went away happy after an evening of wonderful live music at Blue Frog.
The R&B All Stars did it again. Blew the roof off Blue Frog Studios in White Rock British Columbia, Canada! What a series of sold out shows this weekend. Solid performances every night. This year the R&B All Stars celebrate its 40th year on the Vancouver music scene. And to strengthen the band, 3 new members have been added to the All Star lineup, Bill Sample on keys, Tim Porter on lead guitar and vocals, and Nathan Aswell teaming up with Joani Bye on lead vocals. Once again have a winning combination when you add these new members to the already talented cast of players.. The Blue Frog audiences responded with standing ovations for every show.
Last night we took in the latest Cirque du Soleil show to hit Vancouver, Luzia. Probably one of the best shows we’ve seen and my daughter and I have seen almost of the Cirque shows to play in town. They were once again under the big top, the Grand Chapiteau, and in this show they used an amazing water display. That plus the usual acrobatics that are the trademark of Cirque. A must see show for sure. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
We were Steelin’in the Years at Blue Frog Studios tonight, with an all star band. What a line up to pay homage to Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan! The top players in all the land were on the bandstand tonight. Lead singer was Billy Mendoza, with Debby Low and Talia Butler Gray on Vocals, Tim Porter – Guitar, Jason Decouto – Keyboards, David Say – Saxophone, Bill Runge – Saxophone, Geeta Das – Trumpet, Phil Robertson – Drums and the musical director and bass player, Kerry Galloway. It was the proverbial wall of sound! Another 2 sold out shows tomorrow night at Blue Frog.
