Surrey Firefighters Fundraiser

ignite a dreamWow, what a great turnout. Semiahmoo Shopping Centre hosted the first annual “Ignite a Dream” fundraiser for the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Society tonight. Close to 300 people attended the fancy affair that featured 46 VQA vintners, and food samples from 15 restaurants! Money was raised through ticket sales, silent auction, and live auction. Mostly it was a great time for people to graze and schmooze and help out the cause. I was the mc and auctioneer for the night, and we’ll have to wait and see how much money was raised for the cause. I’m here with the President of the Surrey Firefighters Union Local 1271, Mike McNamara. The cause is a program that is designed to help remove barriers and ignite the dreams of school children in surrey, by providing educational opportunities that wouldn’t exist without the financial support of Ignite the dream. Thanks to all who attended, and the many sponsors for their support, and Semiahmoo Shopping Centre for opening its doors for such a great cause, and successful event.

B.C. Home and Garden Show

Had a great time working a CKNW AM AM980 radio remote broadcast today with Grace Pickell of Fortis B.C. We let the listeners know all the good reasons to switch to Natural Gas, and also threw in some energy saving tips. The NW crew was fun to work with, and we got to meet and talk to lots of listeners/viewers. It was a big crowd today, on a snowy, rainy Saturday.

Georgie Awards

Last night I mc’d the Georgie Awards, a black tie banquet at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. The Georgie Award celebrates the excellence in home building, by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia. It’s the premier event of the year for the CHBA B.C. and this year was the 22nd year, attended by over 500 people.
The venue was stunning, overlooking the inner harbour of Vancouver and the North Shore mountains. Singer songwriter Andrew Johns provided the entertainment all night long.
It was a first class show! Congratulations to all the winners, and to the event organizers, Scott Whitemarsh of Whitemarsh Enterprises, and Darrin Buchanan of Noteable Entertainment and Events.
